Laundry – Common Issues & Care

Maintain laundry appliances regularly to prevent odors, extend lifespan, and lower energy consumption.

Front-Loading Washing Machines

  • Rubber Door Gasket: Wipe out moisture, lint, and detergent residue from the folds of the door seal after laundry days, and leave the door cracked open to prevent mold and mildew growth.

  • Detergent Dispenser Drawer: Pull out the drawer, rinse under hot water, and scrub away caked-up powder or fabric softener buildup with a small brush.

  • Drain Pump Filter: Locate the access door at the bottom front, place a towel underneath, unscrew the filter plug, and clear out trapped lint, coins, and debris every 1–3 months.

  • Drum Maintenance Clean: Run a hot service cycle ($60^\circ\text{C}$ or higher) once a month using a dedicated washing machine cleaner or washing soda to dissolve internal soap scum.

Top-Loading Washing Machines

  • Lint Filters / Agitator: Clean removable lint traps or the center agitator cap regularly to keep lint off clothes and maintain proper drainage.

  • Rim & Cover Cleaning: Wipe down detergent splatters around the top rim, lid underside, and water inlet ports to stop residue from hardening.

Vented & Condenser Clothes Dryers

  • Primary Lint Filter: Clean the lint screen before or after every single load to maintain airflow, reduce energy consumption, and prevent fire hazards.

  • Condenser Unit (Condenser Models Only): Pull out the heat exchanger unit located at the bottom of the machine every 1–2 months, rinse it under a showerhead to flush out trapped lint, and let it dry before reinstalling.

  • Exhaust Vent Duct (Vented Models Only): Disconnect and vacuum the flexible ducting behind the dryer annually to clear accumulated lint chokes.

  • Moisture Sensors: Wipe down the small metal sensor strips located inside the drum (near the lint filter) with rubbing alcohol every few months to remove film left by dryer sheets.

Heat Pump Dryer

Heat pump dryers operate as closed-loop refrigeration systems, making their maintenance focused on airflow, filtration, and moisture removal to preserve efficiency.

  • Primary Lint Filter: Clean the inner door lint filter after every single load by wiping away fluff to maintain essential airflow.

  • Secondary / Base Filter: Pull out the lower sponge or fine mesh filter located in the bottom maintenance compartment every 3 to 5 loads, wash it under warm running water to remove micro-fine lint, and let it dry completely before reinstalling.

  • Evaporator Heat Exchanger Fins: Vacuum the delicate metal fins behind the lower filter door every 1 to 2 months using a soft brush attachment. Avoid touching the fins with hard vacuum nozzles, as bending them restricts airflow.

  • Water Tank & Drainage Line: Empty the condensed water drawer after every cycle (if not plumbed into a drain pipe), and periodically check that the rear rubber drain hose is free of kinks or lint clogs.

  • Moisture Sensor Strips: Wipe down the metal sensor bars inside the drum with a damp cloth and rubbing alcohol every few months to remove invisible coating layers left by fabric softeners or dryer sheets.

  • Drum & Interior Cleaning: Leave the door slightly ajar between cycles to allow internal moisture to evaporate, preventing sour odors from developing inside the sealed cabinet.
