Coil Elements Stoves

  • Element wobbles or sits unevenly: The drip pan beneath may be warped, or the prongs are not seated correctly in the receptacle block. Unplug the cold element, adjust the drip bowl, and push the prongs firmly back into the socket.

  • Element doesn't heat at all: Unplug the non-working coil and plug it into a working burner socket of the same size. If it heats up, the original receptacle block is burnt out and needs replacing; if it doesn't heat up, the coil element itself has failed.

  • Smoke on first use after cleaning: Residue from cleaning sprays or burnt oil on the underside of the coil burns off. Run the element on high for 5 minutes under a rangehood to burn off residue.

  • Cleaning drip trays: Turn the stove off at wall. Remove the coil element and take out the drip tray underneath. Wash with warm soapy water. Dry them and insert them back in there place - refit the coil element. Good practice is to clean this frequently if there is lots of spillage.
