Solid Plate Cooktops - General

  • Rust spots forming on the plate: Cast iron absorbs moisture. Scrub light rust off with a scouring pad, dry thoroughly, and apply a thin coating of solid-plate conditioner or vegetable oil to re-season the surface.

  • Sluggish heating times: Solid plates take longer to transfer heat. Ensure cookware has a perfectly flat bottom; any warping creates an air gap that drastically slows down heat transfer.

  • Flaking or peeling black coating: Frequent wet boiling removes the protective factory coating. Clean the surface thoroughly and apply commercial black plate polish to seal and restore the finish.
